Our scientific journey
Since our inception in 2015, the Allen Institute for Cell Science has brought together a talented multidisciplinary team to tackle the complex problem of how cells work and change. Towards this goal, we have generated unique tools, high quality data sets, and other resources to make our own discoveries and shared them openly with the greater research community. Over the last decade we have published foundational studies, launched publicly available cell lines, and developed open-source digital tools empowering researchers to push the boundaries of our field and ensuring that our community grows with us in knowledge and collaboration. See how we've grown so far and where we're headed next.

Our open science philosophy
We believe shared understanding accelerates new discoveries and nurtures breakthroughs. As part of our principle of open science, we are committed to making the knowledge, data, resources, and tools we generate accessible to the community, thereby enabling researchers and clinicians to explore cell organization and advance our understanding of biology and health. Explore our freely available data, tools, and software today.
Our dedication to education
Our team is dedicated to advancing education and supporting students’ and educators’ learning. In partnership with the Allen Institute's Education & Engagement Program, our efforts facilitate educational use of our open science resources, share our current research, and foster student and educator experiences. We have developed several online tools such as the Visual Guide to Human Cells, the Integrated Mitotic Cell, and the 3D Cell Feature Explorer that help students explore human cells using our research-grade data. We aim to foster hands-on learning and a deeper understanding of cell biology, empowering students and educators alike.
Our team
We are a multidisciplinary team of scientists, software engineers, analysts, designers, instrumentalists, and many more working closely together to solve big questions and drive forward the field of cell biology.
